Deceptive Cadence (סיום מדומה) is a coming-of-age novel that follows the story of Iar, a gifted oboist and musicology researcher, thirty-one years old, who returns to Israel after her marriage falls apart and the planned move with her husband to Oslo collapses. Moving from sublet to sublet, she tries to carve out a new path through the maze of the post-truth era; in post-pandemic Israel, where it seems impossible to trust any information or anyone, as society’s mediating institutions lose their meaning and the political winds grow turbulent, YouTube tutorials become the sole soundtrack of her life and her only means of navigation in the world. They replace meaning itself—and, in the absence of any other anchor, teach her how to live.
