Professor Dan Edidin

Fulbright Distinguished Scholar, 2024, Mathematics, Tel Aviv University

Professor Dan Edidin was selected to be the Luther Marion Defoe Distinguished Professor of Mathematics at the University of Missouri, as of fall 2025. Professor Edidin, a Fulbright Distinguished Scholar at Tel Aviv University in 2025, works in both pure and applied mathematics. In pure mathematics, he is best known for his foundational contributions to algebraic geometry, including work on intersection theory, quotient stacks, and equivariant cohomology. More recently, he has applied tools from geometry and representation theory to problems in signal processing and structural biology, notably through his work on orbit recovery and cryo-electron microscopy, where he develops mathematical frameworks for reconstructing molecular structures from noisy data.
