Maya Gayer is a journalist, content editor, and program director. Gayer, who studied at Columbia University’s Oral History MA program as a 2023-24 Fulbright student, received the Jeffrey H. Brodsky Award for her thesis, “In Defense of Democracy: An Oral History Archive of the Israeli Democracy Protest Movement.” Created for the use of academic, journalistic, and other researchers, as well as political activists interested in learning about democratic backsliding and civil resistance, she interviewed over twenty leaders of the Israeli Democracy Protest Movement, focusing on the period of global mobilization from January to October 2023. The collection will be archived at the National Library of Israel, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and in the Judaica and Hebraica Collections of Stanford University.
Gayer previously served as Senior Director of Programming and Content Editor at GLZ Radio, and as Editor-in-Chief of The Broadcast University, one of the station’s flagship programs. She also established and directed the Persitz Program in Arts Management at the Tel Aviv–Jaffa Municipality and was Head Content Editor of the science documentary series The Future Is Already Here, which aired on KAN. She holds an MA, magna cum laude, in Film and Television Studies from Tel Aviv University.
