Dr. Omri Cohen received the Award for Excellence in Published Research for PhD Students from the Israel Political Science Association, as well as the “Mahar” Award for Publication in the Social Sciences and Humanities from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Cohen is a Fulbright postdoctoral fellow at the Helen Diller Institute of the University of California, Berkeley exploring populist movements and politicians and how they operate in local and central government. His work contributes to understanding the ties and dynamics between populism across scales, especially with regard to issues of democracy and right/left-wing ideologies. In addition, he investigates digital activists’ perceptions of democracy and online activism. Cohen completed his PhD work at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev under the supervision of Professor Dani Filc and Dr. Noam Tirosh. Previously, he completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English literature and published research on education, empathy, and gender in minority literature.
